A MAIZALL delegation, led by President Paulo Bertolini, met with U.S. government officials, officials of the House Agriculture Committee and industry supporters in Washington DC on January 18 and 19, 2022.
The objectives of the meetings were to discuss MAIZALL’s recent and planned advocacy activities, to learn about the priorities of our counterparts and to identify areas of collaboration.
Paulo Bertolini, U.S. Director John Linder and several members of staff attended the meetings in person, whereas several other MAIZALL Directors participated in some meetings virtually. MAIZALL’s representatives also discussed the outcomes of our mission to the UK in December 2021, which were well received. Our contacts welcomed the information on MAIZALL’s plans for the coming months, including ongoing advocacy in the EU, WTO, UK and international organizations, updating our messaging, hosting delegations of regulators, farmers and other stakeholders in the MAIZALL countries and identifying other countries for advocacy. Contacts were particularly interested in a direct comparison of the benefits of GM corn versus non-GM corn production on Paulo Bertolini’s farm.
